For the Frosting:
- Butter (softened) – 230 g (1 cup)
- Cocoa powder – 65 g (2/3 cup)
- Powdered sugar – 400 g (3 1/2 cups)
- Milk – 60 ml (1/4 cup)
- Vanilla extract – 2 tsp
Instructions:
Cake:
Preparation: Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Wet Ingredients: Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
Boiling Water: Gradually add the boiling water to the batter, mixing on low speed. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
Baking: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cooling: Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then remove from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
Frosting:
Butter: Beat the softened butter on high speed until creamy.
Cocoa and Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk. Beat on medium speed after each addition. Once all the ingredients are combined, beat on high speed until light and fluffy.
Vanilla Extract: Add the vanilla extract and beat until well incorporated.
Assembling the Cake:
Layers: If the cakes have domed tops, level them with a knife for even layers.
Frosting: Spread a generous amount of frosting on top of one of the cakes. Place the second cake on top and spread the remaining frosting on the top and sides of the cake.
Decoration: Optionally, decorate the cake with grated chocolate, berries, or any other decorations of your choice.
